Baby Monkey Susie Is Worried and Does Not Give Kitten, Hugging Him

At the heart of a small animal sanctuary in Thailand, an unusual and heartwarming scene has captured the attention of visitors and animal lovers alike. Baby monkey Susie, a tiny, wide-eyed primate, has formed an unshakable bond with a stray kitten. However, what started as an adorable friendship has now turned into a situation that has puzzled caretakers—Susie is so attached to the kitten that she refuses to let go, hugging him tightly as if afraid to lose him.

An Unlikely Friendship

Susie, a six-month-old macaque, was rescued after being found abandoned in the wild. Weak and vulnerable, she was brought to the sanctuary, where she received care and affection from the staff. However, despite the efforts of her human caretakers, Susie seemed to long for companionship of her own kind—until she met a small, stray kitten that had wandered into the sanctuary grounds.

The kitten, later named Milo, was tiny, frail, and in need of care himself. Upon spotting him, Susie immediately rushed over and, to everyone’s surprise, picked him up and clutched him tightly. From that moment on, she refused to be separated from him.

A Mother’s Instinct?

Caretakers believe Susie’s strong attachment to Milo stems from a mix of maternal instincts and emotional need. As a young monkey who lost her own mother too soon, Susie may see Milo as her own baby, filling the void left in her life. Her behavior includes cradling him protectively, grooming him constantly, and even trying to feed him leaves, despite the kitten’s obvious lack of interest in a primate diet.

“Susie holds him like a mother holds her baby,” said one of the sanctuary workers. “It’s as if she thinks he’s hers, and she doesn’t want anyone to take him away.”

Worried and Protective

While their bond is heartwarming, Susie’s attachment has now turned into deep worry. Any time someone tries to take Milo away—even just to check on his health—Susie panics. She tightens her grip, whimpers, and even bares her tiny teeth as if to warn people not to take her precious friend.

This has made caring for the kitten a challenge. Staff members need to ensure Milo gets proper food and medical checkups, but Susie’s refusal to let go makes even the simplest tasks difficult. They have tried distracting her with treats and toys, but nothing seems to convince her to release her grip for more than a few seconds.

“She acts like she’s afraid he’ll disappear if she lets go,” one caretaker explained. “She clings to him all day, and at night, she curls up around him like a protective blanket.”

Finding a Solution

The sanctuary is now working on gently encouraging Susie to share her time with Milo rather than keeping him all to herself. They have introduced soft blankets and plush toys to provide comfort, hoping she will transfer some of her attachment. Slowly, they are also trying to teach her that Milo needs to move freely and receive proper care.

Despite the challenges, the sanctuary has no plans to separate them completely. “Their bond is special,” the head caretaker noted. “We just need to make sure it’s a healthy one—for both of them.”

A Heartwarming Connection

As the days go by, visitors at the sanctuary continue to marvel at the unlikely duo. Some say Susie’s love for Milo is proof that animals, like humans, feel deep emotions and form connections that defy species boundaries. Others simply watch in awe, touched by the sight of a tiny monkey protecting a kitten as if he were the most precious thing in the world.

For now, baby monkey Susie remains as devoted as ever, hugging Milo close, determined never to let him go.
